Thank God for His Holy Spirit – Pentecost Sunday 2017

ACWC’s Pentecost Service was held June 6, 2017. The message was preached by Pastor Bryant Townsend. The message came from Acts 2:1-17, and was titled “Lord Do It Over Again”.  He reminded the church to get on one accord so we can experience the fullness of the power of the Holy Spirit.

Every year we honor the gift of the Holy Spirit through Pentecost Sunday. After the resurrection of Christ, the First Century Church was created (Acts 2:1-4) when God poured His Spirit on the Disciples in Jerusalem. While they were waiting for God in prayer in an upper room, the sound of a violent wind filled the house, and each of them began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit of God gave them utterance. At that moment, they were baptized with the Holy Spirit and with power. This act was prophesied by John the Baptist (Matthew 3:11). The disciples went out and began to tell of what God had done. Peter then used the power of communication that the Holy Spirit had given him to begin the Church as we know it.

As Christians, we believe that we are all baptized by one Spirit into one body (1 Corinthians 12:13), and that the same Spirit which raised Jesus from the dead still lives inside the believers of Christ (Romans 8:9-11) (Acts 2:39). We must do our part to be on one accord in Christ.

Happy Pentecost Sunday!
